How is reading time worked out?

Words divided by 230 words a minute, rounded up to the next whole second.

Does it handle accented text?

Yes. Accented letters count as letters, and slugify turns them into plain ASCII: Héllo Wörld becomes hello-world.

Is a failed request charged?

No. Only successful calls use credits; a 400 for bad input is free.
